Unforgettable experiences, amazing atmosphere, fierce competition, phenomenal prizes and crowds of fans from all over the world. That's the real treat for gaming fans - Intel® Extreme Masters! IEM is a cyclical, international e-sports tournaments, held since 2007 in various countries around the world. Since 2013, these struggles have been taking place in Katowice's Spodek.
At the beginning there was... - a short history of the uprising.
The history of IEM begins with ESL, the Electronic Sports League, which was founded in 1997 by the German League DeCL (Deutsche Clanliga). In 2000 the league changed its name to ESL and started its worldwide expansion. The cooperation with Intel started six years later, when Intel sponsored the European tournament for the first time. Considering the huge potential of electronic sports, the manufacturer decided to organize the first ESL worldwide tournament under the new name "Intel Extreme Masters". Since then, the IEM has become the most important event in the ESL. The year 2007 was the year that started the new form of league competitions, from minor elimination events to the most important final event, in which the best of the best are struggling. Originally in IEM it was only possible to compete in "Counterstrike 1.6" and "Warcraft III". In the following seasons there were games like "World of Warcraft", "Quake Live", "League of Legends" and "Heroes of the Storm".
