About
The Jackson, formerly known as The Jackson 5, is an American pop band made up of members of the Jackson family. The group was founded in 1965 by brothers Jackie, Tito and Jermaine. Their younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined them soon.
The adventure with music actually began in 1966, when The Jacksons won a talent show at Theodore Roosevelt High School. After winning many more talent shows, Joe Jackson booked performances for his sons at several Chitlin' Circuit music venues, including Chicago's Regal Theater and Harlem's Apollo Theater, where the young artists also won first place in 1967. In the same year, the band signed their first recording contract with Gordon Keith - owner and producer of Steeltown Records - and released their debut singles: "Big Boy" sung entirely by then 9-year-old Michael, and "We Don't Have to Be Over 21". In August 1969, The Jackson 5 performed the cover "It's Your Thing" at the opening of The Supremes' performance, and in the same month released their first international single "I Want You Back", which became a pass to their further career. In December of the same year the debut studio album entitled "Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5" was released. The album containing soul-pop songs delighted thousands of listeners around the world. "I Want You Back" went first on the Billboard Hot 100 list in January 1970. The label, seeing the potential of the young Michael, also bet on his solo career, which turned out to be a great success. The artist's extraordinary talent began in the world of the so called "Jacksonmania". Since 1972, the band's albums began to systematically fall off the charts, despite Michael and Jermaine's solo successes. In November 1976, under the wings of the new label, the group released their eleventh album "The Jacksons", which, regardless of the fact that it received a gold certificate, didn't generate as much sales when they operated under the Motown label. By 1984 the brothers had recorded four more albums. Unfortunately, various problems and more and more frequent quarrels have led to a partial breakdown of the band. In late 1984 Michael left the group and a month later Marlon followed in his footsteps and decided to continue his solo career. In 1989, the remaining quartet of Tito, Jackie, Jermaine and Randy released "2300 Jackson Street", which was not commercially successful and became the band's last album. In September 2001, after almost 17 years since their last performance together, all the brothers met for two performances in Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Michael's solo carrer. At the beginning of 2009, the four oldest brothers began recording a reality show to reunite the band as "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty". However, the full connection didn't occur due to the sudden death of the King of Pop. After this tragic incident, the Jacksons recorded the song "This Is It", and planned to release an album and tour, but none of these plans were implemented. In 2011 Jackie Jackson released his solo single on iTunes and Jermaine released his first solo album "I Wish U Love". After the release of his eleventh solo album, Marlon Jackson resigned from his musical activities in 1989, while Randy stopped his musical activities in 1991. The year 2012 saw a breakthrough and Jackie, Marlon, Jermaine and Tito decided to join forces again and perform all over the world.
