One of hip-hop’s heavyweight supergroups brings Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber to Europe and the UK for one last ruckus

Arguably hip-hop’s first musical dynasty, Wu-Tang Clan started as one member’s plan, and grew into a global brand.


How do you tell a story like the Wu-Tang Clan? Perhaps it’s easiest to just start in the beginning, the early ‘90s, when a group of erstwhile musical collaborators from Staten Island decided to cohere into a single unit. Their names are now as iconic as the intro to a song that announces them on their debut record, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers): The RZA, The GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killa and the Method Man – as well as Masta Killa, Capadonna and DJ Mathematics.

Combining a rough, rugged and raw production style with relentless vocal delivery and samples lifted from kung-fu movies (supposedly inspired by films the younger members would watch at seedy Times Square movie theatres during the day time) at a time when hip-hop was still dominated by boom-bap, and when West Coast gangsta rap was still in its infancy, from the moment their debut hit the streets it ripped the face off rap fans from coast to coast and kickstarted a musical dynasty.

Of course, each member brought their own unique flavour to the Wu-Tang Clan, but at the heart of it all, always, was The GZA, otherwise known as The Genius, and with good reason: Laying out a Master Plan before the group had even dropped their first record, it was the GZA who mapped out the strategy that would turn both the group and its composite members into hip-hop legends, releasing a series of critically-acclaimed solo records while occasionally regrouping as the original unit to remind fans what their combined forces were capable of.

As crazy as it is to think, that was over thirty years ago. In the time that has passed since, members have come and gone (RIP Ol’ Dirty Bastard), and Wu-Tang has evolved from a gritty hip-hop troupe from Staten Island to a global brand, recognisable by their inimitable ‘Wu’ double-u logo, which now adorns clothing, sneakers, homeware and everything else. What started as a genius’ plan has grown into an international sensation, and at the centre of it all is a troupe of hip-hop legends whose live shows have become something like a pilgrimage for hip-hop for-lifers.

And now, after three decades of splitting wigs, the Wu might be finally making their exit. Following a farewell tour of North America that left fans yearning for three decades more, the Wu are bringing their final, emotional goodbye to the UK and Europe, announcing a slew of shows across the European continent to say goodbye to fans who’ve grown and evolved with and alongside their own sweeping sonic oeuvre. It’ll be emotional, but it’ll also be a wild one. They’ll bring the music: You can bring the ruckus
