Mike Skinner pochodzi z Birmingham. Ten raper, producent, DJ, piosenkarz, pisarz, aktor jest odpowiedzialny za niektóre z najważniejszych brytyjskich utworów tego stulecia. Jego debiutancki album „Original Pirate Material” z 2002 roku, jest powszechnie uważany za płytę, która zmieniła oblicze brytyjskiego rapu. Drugi album „A Grand Don't Come For Free” przyniósł wielki światowy sukces, m.in. dzięki takim hitom, jak „Fit But You Know It” i „Dry Your Eyes”. Po 5 albumach i ponad 5 milionach sprzedanych płyt, Skinner zrezygnował z działalności pod szyldem The Streets i skupił się na pracy nad innymi projektami muzycznymi. W 2018 roku Skinner wrócił ze swoim fenomenalnym zespołem na entuzjastycznie przyjętą trasę. W 2021 roku The Streets wyda nowy album i debiutancki film fabularny, oba zatytułowane „The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light”.
