About
If anyone says "The Big Four" of thrash metal then what will the answer be? Of course, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - and a few words about the last.
Anthrax is a New York-based band founded in 1981 by rhythmic guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. In the initial period of its existence, the team experienced numerous personnel changes. The first line-up was complemented by vocalist John Connelly, drummer Dave Weiss and bass player Paul Kahn, who was soon replaced by Kenny Kushner before Lilker took over the bass and Greg Walls joined as the lead guitarist. Weiss was replaced by Greg D'Angelo and the vocalist was Jason Rosenfeld, who was replaced by Neil Turbin at the end of August 1982. During the shift, the band recorded their first demo. The debut performance of the group with the new vocalist took place in September of the same year in the Great Gildersleeves club. In the summer of 1983, Walls left the ranks of the band, and Bob Berry took his place at first, to give way later to Dan Spitz. Despite further changes, the group managed to record the second demo. This material went to Jon Zazula, whose independent label Megaforce Records had previously released a debut album of Metalica "Kill 'Em All". At the end of 1983 Zazula agreed to sign a recording contract with Anthrax, which resulted in the album "Fistful of Metal" released in January 1984.
Due to growing tensions between Lilker and the rest of the band it was decided to release the bass player and replace him with Frank Bello. At the end of the third quarter the band parted with vocalist Neil Turbin. In 1985 the Anthrax microphone was made available to Joey Belladonna, with whom the group recorded their second album "Spreading the Disease". The album received a lot of positive reviews from music critics delighted with the excellent sound of trash metal. The third studio album "Among the Living" was released in March 1987. It showed the humorous, experimental side of the band and initiated a lyrical trend focusing on films, comics and Stephen King's novels. In 1988, the next album "State of Euphoria" was released, and two years later, much more serious "Persistence of Time", which surpassed the success of its predecessor, being more darker and progressive. At the end of 1992, singer Joey Belladonna was dismissed due to many creative differences. His place was taken by former vocalist of Armored Saint - John Bush. After releasing the album "Sound of White Noise" in 1993, long-time guitarist Dan Spitz left the band and Anthrax performed as a quartet for the next two years. After a few turbulences and changes the label, the group released their ninth album "We've Come for You All" in 2003, praised by journalists as an excellent return to form. The tenth album was released only in 2011.
"Worship Music" made its debut on the twelfth position on the Billboard Top 200 charts, being the band's highest position on the charts since "Sound of White Noise" in 1993. The year 2016 began with a short tour of the United States with the band "Lamb of God" and the release of the eleventh album "For All Kings". The album was placed on the ninth position of the Billboard Top 200 and gained fame all over the world. The next album will be released in 2019 - we are looking forward to it!
